Specific Skills

- Experience in Probate and Trust administration
- Basic knowledge of Estate Planning documents and concepts
- Previous Tax Software Experience
- Tracking billable time is required

Our Squirrel Hill based Pittsburgh law firm is seeking an experienced full-time paralegal who is proficient with Probate/Estate Administration and Estate Planning in Pennsylvania.
Our ideal candidate will have strong organizational, communication and analytical skills, excellent attention to detail, a client service orientation, and a proactive self-starter mentality.
The successful candidate will be expected to handle probate matters from beginning to end. Familiarity with Lackner software is a huge plus. Being a notary is also a plus and if not, the willingness to become a notary.
The candidate will work closely with clients, attorneys and other professional advisors and responsibilities will include all phases of trust and estate administration and of implementing an estate plan. Detailed responsibilities include the following:
Specific Skills
- Experience working directly with clients in the administration of estates and trusts
- Experience working directly with clients in the implementation of estate plans
- Comfort with interacting and communicating with clients
- Comfort with interacting and communicating with financial institutions and advisors
- Experience preparing deeds
- Assist attorneys, including preparing drafts, in connection with drafting Wills, other estate planning documents, and special projects and duties, as assigned
- Assist attorneys in the Estate and Trust Administration practice including review and preparation of documents, petitions, accountings, related court filings and correspondence, appointments or resignations of fiduciaries, and disclaimers
- Preparation of beneficiary designation forms and asset transfer forms
- Assist attorneys in the Estate and Trust Administration practice including review and preparation of documents, petitions, accountings, related court filings and correspondence, appointments or resignations of fiduciaries, and disclaimers
- Coordinate probate court filings and recordings, including research and familiarity with local rules and probate court
- Collect, analyze and organize decedent’s financial and legal records, including tax returns, inter vivos trust agreements, gift tax returns, and financial statements
- Maintain financial records for use in preparing tax returns and fiduciary accountings; assisting attorney with preparation of estate tax and inheritance tax returns (valuation of decedent’s assets at the date of death and determine liabilities of the estate)
- Experience with Lackner estate administration software is desired
- Organize estate and trust files and documents; create and maintain spreadsheets and databases related to trust and estate administration
- Prepare required documents in connection with the distribution of general and specific bequests, interim and residuary distributions, and the funding of trusts
- Prepare fiduciary accountings for estates and trusts; prepare Receipt and Release Agreements, Schedules of Distribution, and related documentation, for informal settlement of estates and trusts
